What’s the 4-1-1?
Nu-metal stalwarts return with a new singer and new sound in tow.
Genre
Hard rock / alternative
The Good
A driving riff draws you in on the opening track “Shoot the Arrow”.
With the first uttering of vocals by Caraccioli you realize this is a new Adema.
Luke’s vocals are tuneful and smooth. “Barricades in Time” is
a combination of understated rhythms and all out distortion. Another powerful
chorus delivered by Caraccioli. He’s starting to sound like an edgier Maynard
James Keenan (Tool). The sweeping riff of “Tornado” is just as effective
as the driving chorus. The ping-like guitar licks simple add to the track.
If “Enter
the Cage” isn’t already the theme to the next Ultimate Fighting Championship
event, then it soon will be. It has great dramatic and impactful build-up that
concludes in an angered fury. “Rise Above” mixes the clean and somber
tones of the acoustic guitar with crunchy electric riffs. “Bad Triangle” shows
that there’s still a little of that nu-metal sound lying around with its
rap-style vocal delivery. The chorus is harmonious though.
Adema tackles a pretty
weighty issue on “Better Living Through Chemistry”. Luke sings of
how doctors will give us a pill to cure whatever ails us; emotional problems,
weight problems, and/or physical issues. The medications don’t necessarily
work, and the doctors aren’t always looking out for us either; they’re
just looking to line their pockets. “Wide Eyes Opens” tackles another
social issue; alcoholism.
The Bad
Nothing
The Verdict
Adema break the shackles of their nu-metal captors and start a personal revolution
of melodic hard rock.
