1. If I knew absolutely nothing about Autumn Black,
how would you describe the group’s music to me?
AP: FRESH, NEW SOUND, NOTHING WHATS OUT TODAY, THE
CLASH
OF EVERYTHING YOU WANT TO HEAR, DIVERSE MIX OF METAL
AND HARDCORE CREATIVITY WHICH BRINGS THE MASSES
TOGETHER.
2. If I were to buy your new album Beneath the
Shadows (read CD
review),
what songs should I pay particular attention to and why?
JK: The songs which
people seem to enjoy and pay
particular attention to are as follow 1. Beneath the
Shadows 2. Breathe for me 3. Ashes
because each of these songs have a direct meaning and
the songs have their own identity (meaning they dont
sound the same) This exemplifies to the audience our
diverse
clash of music and capability to evolve in music.
3. When and where did the band form, and where did the
name come from? AP: The
band was formed by the twins albert and ruben
platt in 2004. Many players have come and gone but it
wasnt until the band came together in the summer of
2006. While the twins were finishing the album"Beneath
The Shadows" they met Jonathan in college and soon
asked to join. Jonathan gladly accepted the offer
because of the idea of autumn black. This is what he
has been trying to do for many years. As soon as jon
joined they met christopher daigle during a random
audition at their studio. He also loved the idea of
Autumn Black but he felt it needed something to finish
the concept. Then came Andrew to finish and polish
their musical task. The guys were looking for a
vocalist to stand up to the challenge and also agree
with the concept of the group. He also had the musical
backgound which the group was looking for.
We call
each other the band of the hand meaning we are a fist
that shall hit you in your mouth and leave you with a
sting of musical endeavor. East Coast Metal + West
Coast Hardcore=AUTUMN BLACK
The name came from the twins. Autumn (Meaning the
decay, death, dark but also meaning birth, new life,
the start of something amazing) and black meaning in
our music its dark and heavy but also has a light and
meaningful message. A balance like a ying yang or a
postive and negative atom that attract each other!
Without a balance there is no growth, no diversity, no
stabitily, and no fusion of force.
4.
What was your worst on stage experience? What was your
best?
RP: We havent really
had a bad experience. We usually
make the best out any situation. We know things dont
go as planned but all we could do is smile and rock
out because in that key moment we are in a place where
we only exist. An escape of reality that you cant
touch, hear or even see just experience it. Overall,
our best show would have to be in forth worth, texas.
It was a metalfest and the promoter/owner of the event
specifically told us we were the talk of the show that
we stole the show and to the crowd of 2000 people we
felt we gave them what they came for. A MONOLITH of
AUTUMN BLACK.
5. Do you think that the Internet (whether it be Internet
radio, legal downloading, MySpace, streaming audio, etc.) is a good tool
for musicians or is it a bad thing because it hinders profits?
JK: Well this had been
a topic for many years now. I
believe it helps the artist but also hinders the art.
In todays society a muscian must think that the
industy is not all about the music. The business
aspects of this career are very demanding. Thus, all
the press mentioned in the question above does help
the art get out to the masses but also you loose the
numbers and kills your profits due to illegal
downloading. many people today dont buy albums anymore
they simply say I will get it online. We feel as a
group that we are against illegal downloading becuase we work so hard in
production to make a living as an artist to just have someone rip and copy
and take food
and funds from our fun job. Remember a small touring
band doesnt get the benefits as major groups. So we
value and respect all forms of hard working groups
that are trying to make a living out of their art. I
am not saying to be millionaires but to have some
money to eat and live.
