5 Questions with...

1. If I knew absolutely nothing about Blackmarket, how would you describe the group’s music to me?
-- sometimes its like bang, bang, bang, weeyou, weeyou, and other times its like la, la, la, falsetto, lu, la, la.

2. If I were to buy your new album, what songs should I pay particular attention to and why?
-- i really like all of them but im very attached to "sheila," and "white lie" from the ep. i think that would be a good place to start.

3. When and where did the band form, and where did the name come from? -- we all have known eachother since jr. high and played together off and on throughout highschool. after we graduated we started taking the band more seriously. after a couple years we began working with a producer who shall remain nameless. we werent allowed to play shows or really do anything. after we were released from that deal we felt as if we were on the blackmarket. thats where the name came from...very fitting for the time.

4. What was your worst on stage experience? What was your best?
-- we've had a lot of good and bad experiences on stage. some of the worst involved equipment failure. theres nothing worse than blowing out your amp or breaking a few strings without a plan b. it also doesnt help if malfunctions happen within the first 2 songs of your set.

i personally enjoy some of the smaller shows we've had. its nice to see everybody's reaction. we played in tokyo last december and it was completely packed. we had EVERYBODY'S attention. kids had learned our songs in such a short amount of time. i was really impressed. that was probably my favorite show.

5. Do you think that the Internet (whether it be Internet radio, legal downloading, MySpace, streaming audio, etc.) is a good tool for musicians or is it a bad thing because it hinders profits?
-- theres definitely good and bad. i cant even remember what it was like before the internet. for the most part i think its great. it would be crippling not to use it to your advantage with myspace and all that jazz. sure you take a pay cut to illegal downloading, but i never sought out to be the donald trump of music anyway. if anything the internet is weeding out all the real musicians from the bandwagon junkies trying to be rockstars. ahh, the bright side.
