What’s the 4-1-1?
New York City natives offer up their debut effort.
Genre
Post punk / modern rock / alternative
The Good
Oddly enough, “Frequency” kick starts the album with lots of
high-pitched noises that give way to the post-punk hard rock offering “Princes & Kings.” The
track hits the listener hard with edgy riffs and cock-sure vocals. The group
picks up the pace with up-tempo drum beats and sped up guitar licks on “Outcast.” The
Shake’s 70s-era sound stays intact on the multi-vocal track “Devil’s
Side.” The harmonies are a little rough, but that is par for the course
with this type of throw-back sound. “Let Me Take You Far Away” has
a smooth electric groove to it, while “Manic Boogie” shakes you
foundation with in-your-face riffs and lyrics.
The Bad
Nothing notable
The Verdict
The Shake revitalize the raw and fervent sounds of the 70s British post-punk
rock scene with their debut album Kick It. One can only imagine the energy
that is delivered with live performances of this material.
